I have never have attempted to make my own homemade spaghetti sauce nor had the desire, but when my husband went on his heart healthy diet I decided to give it my best for his sake since all the jarred causes had so much sodium and who know what else.
I mixed a few recipes that I found here and there to suit my liking and to accommodate what I had in the fridge. I hope you all like it.
I am sooo pleased to say that it came out better than I could have ever imagined. It tasted so fresh and didn't have that bitter aftertaste that most canned sauces have.
I wasn't the only one who liked it either. My husband raved over it!
Here is my recipe:
Whole wheat spaghetti noodles
2 tbls of olive oil
Whole clove of garlic minced
8 roma tomatos diced
1/2 cup homemade italian dressing or store bought
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh basil
1/4 cup diced red onion
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Place the spaghetti noodles in the pot. Cook 10 minutes or until al dente. and drain.
2. In a large pan start with the minced garlic and olive oil on med to low heat. Add diced tomatoes, italian dressing, chopped basil, and red onion. Cook for about 7 minutes.
3. Serve your spaghetti noodles and top it off with your homemade spaghetti sauce.
4. Add your fresh grated parmesan cheese on top.
Hope you enjoy this delicious recipe.
